First Church of Christ, Congregational, in Bedford, MA

Worship With Us

During July and August we meet in our air-conditioned Music Chapel at 9:30 a.m. From mid-September through June our worship services begin at 10:00 a.m. in our Sanctuary. We invite you to worship with us. Everyone is welcome, no matter where you are on your faith journey.

From September through June, if you are unable to attend church services, you may view the service live on Bedford Religious Access Channel 10 Comcast, Channel 40 Verizon, or see a tape of the service on Wednesday evening at 8:00 p.m. You may also borrow videotapes or DVDs from our church library.

One Great Hour of Sharing

The name says it all. On March 14th, UCC congregations in conjunctions with congregations from eight other Protestant denominations will share their resources to help build sustainable communities, respond to disasters and minister to refugees. One Great Hour of Sharing is part of a remarkable network of service and caring that is efficient, effective and faithful. Administrative costs are typically less than eight percent annually. Join us on Sunday, March 14th to make our hour of worship a great hour of sharing God’s vision of justice with congregations all over the country.

Worship Services

Worship Services begin at 10:00 a.m. through June in the Sanctuary.
We normally have communion on the first Sunday of the month.

Sunday, March 7th Third Sunday in Lent “What Makes a Preacher?”
Our pastor will offer the morning message.
We will celebrate communion.

Sunday, March 14th Fourth Sunday in Lent
“Angels Among Us”

Micah 6:8 Hebrews 13:2 Matthew 25:34-40
The Rev. Dr. Fran Bogle will offer the morning message.
This Sunday we hope to have a representative display from the Shower of Stoles, a very moving collection of over a thousand liturgical stoles and other sacred items representing the lives of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people of faith. These religious leaders have served in thirty-two denominations and faith traditions, in six countries, and on three continents. Each stole contains the story of a GLBT person who is active in the life and leadership of their faith community in some way: minister, elder, deacon, teacher, missionary, musician, administrator, or active layperson. This extraordinary collection celebrates the gifts of GLBT persons who serve God in countless ways, while also lifting up those who have been excluded from service because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The collection bears witness to the huge loss of leadership that the church has brought upon itself because of its own unjust policies.
The vast majority of the stoles have been sent in by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people themselves. Some have been sent by family or friends to honor a GLBT loved one. About one third of all the stoles are donated anonymously; in fact over three-quarters of the stoles donated specifically by clergy and other full-time church professionals are done so anonymously.
In some cases, a church has sent a stole inscribed only with the church's name, or with the names of both gay and straight members, to honor those in that particular congregation who must remain anonymous. All of the stoles, named or anonymous, contain stories, prayers, or other messages.

Sunday, March 21st Fifth Sunday in Lent “Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen”
Taking a cue from the last episode of “M*A*S*H,” our pastor will offer her “farewell sermon.” (While she will preach also on Palm Sunday, she wants to keep that Sunday’s balloonsmessage focused on the beginning of Holy Week.) We will also celebrate the sacrament of baptism.

From 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on March 21st, join in a farewell celebration for Rev. Jamie Howard.

Bulletin Inserts

To help publicize news and events between newsletters, and to shorten announcements at the beginning of the church service, we have started something new. We now include information about ongoing programs, special events and mission opportunities in our weekly bulletin that is given to everyone who attends our worship service. These announcements are printed on green paper for easy identification.
