Our Pastor
Jamie is our 25th pastor. She began her ministry at First Church in November 1980. She attended Brown University and Andover Newton Theological School. Before coming to Bedford, she was an Associate Minister at the Federated Church of Sturbridge and Fiskdale in Sturbridge, MA.
She enjoys spending time with her husband, Craig, going to films,
playing Scrabble, and visiting with friends. She enjoys walking through
the Boston Public Gardens at any season of the year. She used to act in
community theater and hopes one day to get back to that. She also used
to garden, and is looking forward to revitalizing the Manse flower
beds. Jamie also enjoys reading and playing some basic computer games.
You may contact her for a number of things — pastoral needs:
celebration (baptism, wedding, funeral/memorial, welcoming), grief,
dealing with change, questions of faith and life, encouragement,
questions about referrals for counseling, needs for material
assistance; support, consultation for staff, and volunteers; ideas
about programs and courses; questions about church membership; letters
of reference (call first to consult about this); speaking to outside
groups; connection with Bedford's Violence Prevention Coalition or
Bedford Community Partnership; and questions about UCC Mass Conference,
Metropolitan Boston Association, Andover Newton Theological School,
Congregational Library.
The best time to call or see the pastor at the office is on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon. She is of course available at other times for appointments or emergencies. Her customary “days off” occur on Monday mornings, Thursday afternoon, and Fridays.
She will end her almost 30 years of service at First Church the end of March 2010.

For over 35 years, Loryne Koebele has shared her talents with our congregation as Minister of Music. She directs the Chancel Choir, Junior Choir, Carol Choir, Jubilee Ringers, Praise Bells, Praise and Pizza Choir, various musicals, as well as the Bedford Choral Society (a community chorus).
She has also directed the Ecumenical Choir Festival for 45 years. In most recent years it has been held in October at Gordon College.
When someone needs help, she is there.
Her office is overflowing with stuffed animals and music memorabilia. A frequent visitor is her dog, Lucy.
Director of Christian Education
We welcomed Julie Braschler to our staff in May 2007. Her role is to see that the Sunday School, Youth and Adult programs run smoothly. She recruits teachers, resource adults, program leaders, and caregivers. She provides materials for them to use and answers hundreds of questions.
Julie recently worked as the Coordinator of Family Ministries at Hanscom Air Force Base, and has served as a Deacon in our church. You may also see her from time to time as a tour guide at the Louisa May Alcott House in Concord.
She looks forward to meeting new faces and getting re-acquainted with old friends.
Computer Specialist
We hired Susan Wingfield in July 2002 as our part-time Computer Specialist. She is responsible for our newsletters and annual reports. She also works on special computer projects for the staff, creates database reports, trains the staff on how to use their computers, software, and the church database. She also worked part-time in 2001, assisting our Nurture Coordinator with special tasks. She normally works on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but adjusts her schedule as needed. For many years she has volunteered in the church office and on church boards and committees. She also continues to be our volunteer webmaster.
Her hobbies include reading, gardening, working on the computer, and bridge. And now she is enjoying being a grandmother! You may email your newsletter articles to her by clicking here.
